Central's Everett chooses Dartmouth

Hunterdon Central High School senior Meghan Everett has committed to play softball at Dartmouth College.
The Red Devils' center fielder and leadoff hitter, Everett batted .425 last season with two doubles, seven triples and seven home runs, including one in the final of the Hunterdon/Warren Tournament. She also scored 28 runs, notched 28 RBIs, and stole six bases.
Everett, who carries a 3.7 GPA at Hunterdon Central, was named first-team All-Area by the Courier News in both her sophomore and junior seasons. She was also a second-team field hockey player for the Red Devils this past fall.
Despite Ivy League schools not offering athletic scholarships, Everett said she committed to Dartmouth before fully exploring her options with programs that were willing to supplement her tuition because of the school's strong Environmental Studies program and its commitment to building a nationally competitive softball program.
The Big Green went 16-24 against some of the best competition in the nation, and 11-9 in the Ivy League.
"Their softball program is developing,'' said Everett, who said she will attempt to walk on to the field hockey team next season. "They play a lot of southern schools, so they play really great competition. I like that they're looking to improve on what they already have.''
